Weekend Getaway to Hudson, NY
Location: Hudson, NY
The comeback of Hudson, NY has been in full-swing for years and it’s no longer a secret spot for a quick weekend getaway from NYC. And due to the recent trend of chefs fleeing the big city, Hudson is getting recognition for some fabulous eateries. Between all of the antique shops, historic buildings, trendy coffee shops and some amazing restaurants, Hudson has something for everyone. Now seen as more of a cosmopolitan town, I definitely recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a quick weekend escape. Here’s my quick cheat sheet:
Stay
Hudson Merchant House: An adorable venue in a 1700’s building and only features a four room inn, but pays very high attention to detail and hospitality. Everything from the bathrooms with soaking tubs or rain showers down to the comforters and linen is built for luxury and comfort. I highly recommend the Nantucket Room when you stay.
Eat
Without providing an exhaustive list, here are just a few of my favorites that I recommend: Crimson Sparrow, Fish & Game, Olde Hudson (note: not a restaurant but a speciality grocer), Helsinki Hudson, Le Gamin Country, Mexican Radio, Da Ba, Red Dot Restaurant & Bar & Earth Foods.
Do
Get out of Hudson and explore the area around it; for some incredible views of the Hudson Valley, visit Olana NY State Historic Site. Take in a performance at the Frank Gehry designed Fisher Center at Bard College or explore the Omni International Arts Center in nearby Ghent.
Shop
If you love antiques, you are going to LOVE shopping in Hudson. There are at least a few shops on every block, so if you like to meander through each one, you’ll have no problem killing an entire afternoon. You’ll also find no shortage of boutique shops that surely will have just about anything that your heart desires.
